Jamie Pierce of Riverside Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-10 Near Chiriaco Summit

Chiriaco Summit, CA (May 30, 2025) — A violent four-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 claimed the life of 44-year-old Jamie Pierce of Riverside on Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Incident Details: The crash occurred just before noon near the Cottonwood Springs Road exit, east of Chiriaco Summit. CHP officials say a white Dodge pickup truck was traveling at full speed when it failed to slow for traffic and rear-ended a Volkswagen sedan. The impact triggered a chain reaction involving a Tesla and a big-rig semi-truck.

Jamie Pierce, the driver of the Volkswagen, was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The pickup driver sustained moderate to major injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center. The drivers of the Tesla and semi-truck were reportedly uninjured.

The CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: A full investigation is underway, and authorities will examine key evidence such as dashcam footage, cellphone records, and brake response data to determine if driver distraction, fatigue, or other impairments contributed to the crime.

Depending on the findings of the investigation, the Pierce family may pursue a wrongful death claim to provide compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Jamie Pierce’s family and friends.
