One Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Horse Trailer on I-35 Near Wyoming, MN

Wyoming, MN (May 24, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving two trucks, a horse trailer, and two cars caused major delays Friday afternoon on Interstate 35 north of the Wyoming exit, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Accident Details: Troopers responded to the crash around 3:50 p.m. The collision began when one vehicle reportedly cut in front of traffic, leading to a rear-end chain reaction involving four vehicles. A truck pulling a livestock trailer collided with a car, followed by another truck hauling a horse trailer. A second car was also involved.

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that northbound lanes were temporarily shut down. Traffic cameras captured long backups and possible sightings of loose horses, prompting emergency crews to take added precautions at the scene.

According to authorities, one person sustained minor life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported. The horse trailer was carrying five horses and three dogs, all of which were uninjured.

Legal Considerations: Rear-end crashes often point to following distance and reaction time issues. In this case, investigators will likely assess driver behavior, lane-changing maneuvers, and vehicle spacing. Because live animals were involved, officials may also review whether proper animal transport safety protocols were followed.

The injured driver may pursue a personal injury claim if investigators find negligence played a role in the crash.

Ongoing Investigation: The Minnesota State Patrol is continuing its investigation. Lanes were closed for nearly two hours, reopening around 5:40 p.m.

I hope the injured driver recovers fully and commend first responders for securing the animals safely amid the chaos.
