Santa Ana, CA (February 1, 2025) – A pedestrian collision involving a motorcycle claimed the life of Garden Grove resident Hoang Mai Phan, 58, on Saturday evening in the Riverview West area of Santa Ana.
Accident Details: The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in the 1000 block of North Euclid Street, near Hazard Avenue. Phan was walking eastbound along Euclid Street when a southbound motorcyclist struck him. Emergency responders treated him at the scene, but unfortunately, he died. Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
Investigation: The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact authorities.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that this case requires careful investigation to determine the factors contributing to the crash and assess potential liability. Like all drivers, motorcyclists have a duty to operate their vehicles safely. Investigators will determine whether the motorcyclist was speeding, distracted, or otherwise negligent. Even in cases where a pedestrian crosses unexpectedly, the driver may bear partial liability if they failed to react appropriately. Investigators will also look at road conditions and the mechanical function of the vehicle.
Depending on the investigation’s findings, the family of Hoang Mai Phan may consider pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit. Compensation from such a claim could address funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering.
I offer my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Hoang Mai Phan during this difficult time.
