Hit-and-Run Rollover Crash in Downtown Los Angeles Claims Life of Isaac Arellanes Jr. and Injures Six Others

Los Angeles, CA (November 30, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run rollover crash early Saturday morning at Broadway and Cesar Chavez Avenue in downtown Los Angeles left 18-year-old Isaac Arellanes Jr. dead and six others injured, including two in critical condition.

Accident Details: The collision occurred shortly before 1 a.m. when a vehicle struck another at high speed, causing one car to flip onto its roof. Arellanes, a passenger in the vehicle hit by the suspect, was among two individuals trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters extricated him, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigation: The driver of the suspect vehicle fled the scene on foot, abandoning the car and leaving injured passengers behind. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect, who faces potential vehicular homicide charges. Witnesses reported that speed was likely a factor in the collision.

Loved ones have created a memorial at the crash site and are calling for the suspect to turn themselves in.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that this tragic incident highlights several potential legal avenues for justice and accountability. Hit-and-run accidents are particularly egregious because the responsible driver not only causes the accident but also flees from the scene, failing to render aid to others involved. Hitting a car and then leaving the accident scene, therefore, breaches the duty to drive safely. Also, speeding violates traffic regulations and puts others on the road at risk.

The family of Isaac Arellanes Jr. may pursue a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver. Such a claim could provide compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and the profound emotional toll of his untimely death. Similarly, the individuals injured in the crash could file personal injury claims to cover medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and long-term care needs stemming from their injuries.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Isaac Arellanes Jr. during this challenging time. I also send my thoughts to the injured victims as they focus on their recovery.
