Hit-and-Run Accident in South Los Angeles Kills Oscar Ernesto Guardado

South Los Angeles, CA (October 27, 2024) – On the night of October 27, 2024, 42-year-old Oscar Ernesto Guardado was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bicycle at the corner of Normandie Avenue and W 23rd Street in South Los Angeles.

Accident Details: Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced Guardado dead at the scene. The driver of the suspect vehicle, described as a black or dark-colored four-door sedan, fled without offering aid. Investigators are still seeking a detailed description of the car. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Failure to stop and render aid after an accident carries severe penalties. Hit-and-run accidents demonstrate a lack of care and indifference to human life. Violators are criminally liable under California law.

Civil liability may also arise from this incident. Guardado’s family could pursue a wrongful death claim. While no legal remedy can fully compensate for their devastating loss, this claim could help ease financial burdens and serve as a means to obtain justice. Identifying and holding the driver accountable is crucial to addressing this tragedy.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Oscar Ernesto Guardado.
