Critical Injuries Reported in Highway 501 Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer in Horry County

Horry County, SC (April 18, 2025) – One or more individuals sustained critical injuries late Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on Highway 501, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

Accident Details: The crash occurred just before 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 501 and Las Palmas Drive. Emergency crews responded and used the jaws of life to extricate at least one occupant from the wreckage. The vehicles involved have not been fully identified, but one was confirmed to be a tractor-trailer.

Traffic in the area was temporarily blocked overnight, but lanes reopened by Friday morning. The extent of the injuries and the identities of those involved have not yet been released.

Legal Considerations: Crashes involving tractor-trailers often prompt investigations into driver awareness, speed, road conditions, and vehicle maintenance. If it is determined that the semi-truck driver contributed to the crash through unsafe operation or failure to yield, the injured party or parties may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim for medical expenses and other damages.

South Carolina law holds commercial drivers and their companies to strict standards due to the increased risk posed by large trucks.

Ongoing Investigation: The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. No charges or fault determinations have been made public. Further updates are expected as officials review evidence and speak with witnesses.

I hope those injured in the crash receive the treatment they need and recover fully.
