High-Speed Freeway Crash in San Diego Claims Life of  Cale Wallace

San Diego, CA (November 6, 2024) – On the morning of November 6, 2024, 39-year-old Cale Wallace of San Dimas tragically lost his life in a high-speed crash near downtown San Diego.

Accident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Wallace was driving a Chevrolet SUV on a connector ramp from westbound state Route 94 to southbound SR-15 when the vehicle struck a wall at the edge of the overpass and careened off the roadway around 10:30 a.m.

The vehicle plunged off the elevated roadway, landing on the eastbound side of SR-94. It came to rest on an adjacent slope covered with ice plants before catching fire. Wallace, who was ejected from the SUV during the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination.

  • Vehicle Maintenance and Mechanical Failures: An examination of the Chevrolet SUV may reveal whether Wallace was driving at high speeds voluntarily or if there was a mechanical issue.
  • Roadway Design and Maintenance: High-speed crashes on connector ramps often raise questions about road design, signage, and visibility. Were there adequate safety measures, such as guardrails or warnings, to mitigate the risk of a high-speed crash on this ramp?

Depending on the facts, if negligence is found, Wallace’s family may be able to recover compensation for their loss by filing a wrongful death claim. If Wallace was found negligent for driving at high speeds, his family may still be able to recover partial compensation under California’s comparative negligence laws.

This accident is a devastating loss for Wallace’s family and friends. I extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time.
