Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Crash With Bus in Downtown Sacramento

Sacramento, CA (March 19, 2025) – A high-speed police pursuit in Sacramento County ended Wednesday night when the suspect crashed into a 12-seater bus in downtown Sacramento. Authorities later found three ounces of fentanyl on the suspect.

Incident Details: According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit began around 6:30 p.m. near Auburn and Watt Avenue when deputies attempted to stop a vehicle with mismatched license plates. The driver refused to pull over and led officers on a chase through the city.

At one point during the pursuit, the driver stopped near Business 80 and El Camino, where he forced his girlfriend out of the vehicle after she refused to conceal drugs for him. The chase continued until the suspect crashed into a 12-seater bus at J and 29th Streets in downtown Sacramento. The bus driver was the only occupant and was evaluated by fire crews.

Authorities arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered three ounces of fentanyl. Officials stated the individual is a known gang member and will face multiple charges.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: High-speed pursuits involving drug-related offenses often raise concerns about public safety, reckless endangerment, and criminal liability. Investigators will assess whether further charges for evading police, drug trafficking, or endangerment should be filed. If the bus driver sustained injuries, they may have grounds for a personal injury claim to seek compensation for damages.

I hope for a full recovery for the bus driver and commend law enforcement for removing dangerous substances from the streets.
