Head-On Collision Near Oakdale Claims the Life of Matthew Curtis McPherson

Oakdale, CA (November 10, 2024) – On Sunday, November 10, 2024, a tragic accident occurred on Highway 108, just west of Snedigar Road near Oakdale, California, resulting in the death of 47-year-old Matthew Curtis McPherson of Modesto.

Accident Details: The crash occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. and involved a 2012 Ford van and a 2024 GMC pickup truck. The CHP’s preliminary investigation reveals that McPherson was driving westbound in the Ford on Highway 108 when his vehicle crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with the eastbound GMC pickup. The reason he swerved is still under investigation. The driver of the GMC, a 32-year-old woman from Oakdale, sustained major injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Three other passengers in the GMC also suffered injuries ranging from major to moderate, and they were transported to nearby hospitals.

Investigation: The investigation is ongoing, and the involvement of drugs or alcohol has not been confirmed. All individuals involved in the crash were reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. The main issue is why the Ford crossed over the double line.

  • Road Conditions: Investigators will look at the conditions on Highway 108. Did any defects or obstructions cause the Ford to swerve? Was the road poorly designed?
  • Mechanical Malfunction: The Ford should be examined for a mechanical defect or malfunction. Did the brakes malfunction? Was there an issue with the steering wheel?

McPherson’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim. Wrongful death claims can help provide compensation for the funeral expenses, loss of companionship, emotional distress, and financial support that the deceased would have contributed. The injured may be able to file personal injury claims and recover medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering damages.

I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Matthew Curtis McPherson during this incredibly difficult time. The sudden loss of a loved one is heartbreaking, and I hope that those mourning his passing find the support and strength they need. I wish the four injured individuals a fast recovery.
