Columbia, CA (November 6, 2024) – On November 6, 2024, a head-on collision occurred on Parrotts Ferry Road near Porcina Way in Columbia, resulting in injuries to three people.
Accident Details: At approximately 4:30 p.m., a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by 44-year-old Stacy Askren of Avery, was traveling southbound with two passengers: 21-year-old Leslie Quashnick of Avery and a 16-year-old from Angels Camp. An oncoming 2015 Subaru Crosstrek, driven by 18-year-old Abigail Schuler of Murphy, was heading northbound. For reasons currently under investigation, Askren’s vehicle crossed the double yellow lines into the path of Schuler’s Subaru, resulting in a head-on collision. Both vehicles veered off the roadway and down an embankment.
Stacy Askren and her 16-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene. Abigail Schuler also suffered minor injuries but had to be transported to Adventist Health Sonora for medical care. Leslie Quashnick, another passenger in Askren’s truck, was unharmed.
The CHP confirmed that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Even in cases where injuries are minor, victims of motor vehicle accidents may face medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional distress. In this case, further investigation is necessary to determine whether negligence, such as inattentive driving, poorly managed roads, or vehicle malfunction, played a role in the collision. If so, injured parties could have grounds to pursue compensation for damages through a personal injury claim.
I extend my heartfelt wishes for a full and speedy recovery to all those injured in this collision, and I hope they receive the care and support needed during this challenging time.
