Rialto, CA (March 23, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday on the 4000 block of South Riverside Avenue in Rialto, resulting in the death of 57-year-old Gregory McDonald of Moreno Valley. The Rialto Police Department is investigating the crash, which involved a pickup truck crashing into a guardrail and then colliding head-on with McDonald’s Toyota Echo.
Incident Overview: The crash happened around 2:30 a.m., prompting a response from Rialto officers and fire crews from Colton. Upon arrival, they discovered McDonald inside his vehicle with life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate efforts, McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene by Colton Fire Department paramedics.
Suspect and Charges: The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup truck, identified as 27-year-old Marcus Fiorillo of Banning, was found uninjured. Preliminary investigations suggest Fiorillo was traveling north on Riverside Avenue when his vehicle collided with the east guardrail and swerved into oncoming traffic, leading to the fatal collision with McDonald’s sedan. Evidence at the scene indicated Fiorillo was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Fiorillo was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. He faced charges in a San Bernardino County courtroom on Monday, including one count of second-degree murder and one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Fiorillo is currently being held without bail.
Legal Implications: While the suspect has been arrested and faces several criminal charges, McDonald’s family also has the option of filing a wrongful death claim for their loss. This includes things like emotional distress, loss of companionship, and more.
Call for Witnesses: The Rialto Police Department urges anyone with information about the crash to contact Traffic Sergeant Dan Smith at 909-644-6025 or via email. Anonymous tips can also be provided through WeTip.com.
