Norwalk, CA (July 20, 2025) – A sequence of two crashes on the 605 Freeway in Norwalk left four people dead and two others seriously injured in the early morning hours of Sunday.
Accident Details: The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has confirmed that the events unfolded just after 1:00 a.m. north of the 105 Freeway interchange. Initial reports suggested a single collision. However, CHP later clarified that two separate crashes occurred.
The first incident involved a Nissan sedan with four occupants traveling southbound on I-605. The vehicle reportedly clipped a CHP patrol car and came to rest disabled in the #2 lane. A Kia carrying two people collided with the stalled Nissan not long after, which subsequently caught fire. All four individuals inside the Nissan were tragically killed at the scene.
The driver of the Kia, identified as Iris Salmeron, is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. She and her passenger both sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Authorities have stated that Salmeron will face multiple felony charges upon release from medical care.
The officer whose vehicle was struck in the initial incident was unharmed.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP has confirmed that both collisions remain under active investigation. Officials are working to determine how much time passed between the incidents and what additional factors contributed to both crashes.
Investigators typically reconstruct the accident by examining hazard signaling, lighting and visibility, road design, mechanical failures, toxicology, and witness statements.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the families of the deceased may have the right to pursue wrongful death claims.
I extend my sincerest thoughts to everyone affected by this crash. I offer my condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
