Five Killed, Several Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-35 in Austin

Austin, TX (March 13, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 35 in North Austin left five people dead, including two children, and sent several others to the hospital late Thursday night. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the catastrophic collision.

Incident Overview: Emergency responders from Austin-Travis County EMS, the Austin Police Department (APD), and the Austin Fire Department arrived at the crash site just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday. First responders described the scene as “incredibly chaotic,” with multiple vehicles involved and several individuals trapped in the wreckage.

Officials confirmed that 17 individuals and multiple vehicles were involved in the collision, spreading over nearly a tenth of a mile. An infant, another child, and three adults were pronounced dead at the scene.

At least 11 victims were transported to local hospitals, several of whom suffered critical, life-threatening injuries. Authorities worked quickly to remove the injured, stating that all critical patients were transported within 40 minutes despite the complexity of the crash site.

The semi-truck involved in the collision spilled diesel fuel onto the roadway, but fire crews managed to contain the hazardous material.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: APD is investigating several possible factors, including driver behavior, road conditions, and whether the commercial truck met all safety and maintenance requirements. Investigators have not yet released details about which vehicles may have initiated the crash or whether charges will be filed.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, families of the deceased may have grounds to pursue wrongful death claims, seeking compensation for funeral costs, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering. The injured victims may explore personal injury claims for medical expenses, ongoing care, and other damages.

My condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. I also wish those injured a quick and complete recovery.
