Nicholas Coleman and Two Children Among Four Killed in Fiery Head-On Crash with Tractor-Trailer in Jeff Davis County

Jeff Davis County, GA (March 27, 2025) – Four people, including two young children, were killed Thursday evening in a head-on crash between an SUV and a tractor-trailer in Southeast Georgia, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Accident Details: The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. at the intersection of GA Highway 27 and Eureka Church Road. Investigators say Nicholas Coleman, of Hazlehurst, was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche when the vehicle collided head-on with a tractor-trailer. Both vehicles caught fire after the impact.

Coleman and his two children—ages 1 and 2—died at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Jason Goodwin, of Elgin, South Carolina, was also pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Legal Considerations: Fatal head-on collisions often prompt a detailed review of lane positioning, speed, and road conditions. In this case, with both vehicles engulfed in flames and all occupants deceased, investigators may rely on roadway evidence, witness statements, and black box data (if available) to determine how the crash occurred.

Families of those killed in commercial truck crashes may have legal standing to pursue wrongful death claims, especially if any negligence—such as unsafe driving, mechanical failure, or cargo-related hazards—played a role in the collision.

Ongoing Investigation: Georgia State Patrol is leading the investigation. All lanes of GA Highway 27 near Eureka Church Road were closed for several hours as crews responded and investigators examined the scene. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.

I offer my deepest condolences to the families of Nicholas Coleman, Jason Goodwin, and the two children lost in this tragic crash.
