One Killed in USPS Trailer Crash on I-5 North County

Camp Pendleton, CA (May 20, 2025) – A person was killed Monday morning in a collision involving a U.S. Postal Service semi-truck and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 5 in North San Diego County.

Incident Details: The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-5 near Las Pulgas Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officials say the USPS tractor-trailer collided with a passenger vehicle under circumstances still being determined. One person in the smaller vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash resulted in major traffic delays through the area as first responders arrived.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The CHP is investigating what led to the fatal crash. At this time, it is unknown if speed, distraction, or impairment were contributing factors. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased, pending family notification.
