1 Killed in Semi-Truck Crash on 1-40 Near Council Road in Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, OK (April 13, 2025) – A person was struck and killed by a semi-truck on westbound Interstate 40, just west of Council Road, prompting a full closure of the highway and a significant traffic disruption Sunday evening.

Incident Details: According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the collision occurred when a commercial semi-truck fatally struck an individual on the highway. All lanes were closed temporarily while emergency responders and investigators were on the scene. During the closure, traffic was diverted to the inside and outside shoulders. Lanes were reopened later that evening around 9:30 p.m. after authorities deemed the area safe.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Officials have not yet released the victim’s identity or the circumstances that led to them being on the roadway. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol continues to investigate key factors such as the condition of the truck driver, speed at the time of the collision, and whether visibility or other roadway factors played a role. In incidents involving large commercial vehicles, determining liability may hinge on whether the driver was attentive and following safety regulations. This case may also raise questions about pedestrian presence on interstates and protocols for emergency response.
