Fatal Rollover Crash in Wildomar Claims Life of Maria Martinez Lomeli

Wildomar, CA (June 30, 2024) – On Sunday afternoon, a tragic rollover crash occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Diamond Drive in Wildomar. The accident resulted in the death of 74-year-old Maria Martinez Lomeli, who was visiting from Mexico.

Accident Details: The crash happened around 1:50 p.m. Lomeli was seated in the rear passenger seat of a 2004 Kia Sorento. The driver, a 71-year-old man from Compton, lost control of the vehicle. The car swerved into the center divider. Then it overturned and ejected Lomeli, who was not wearing a seatbelt. Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and transported Lomelli to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver and another passenger, a 66-year-old Compton woman, were hospitalized with major injuries and reported to be in stable condition as of Monday.

Investigation and Legal Analysis: California Highway Patrol officers are continuing their investigation into the crash. Key factors such as the driver’s actions, the vehicle’s speed, and any potential mechanical failures will be scrutinized to determine the cause of the accident. From a legal perspective, several questions need to be addressed to ascertain liability. It must be determined whether the driver was negligent in maintaining control of the vehicle or if any external factors contributed to the crash. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Lomelli’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim.

My sincerest condolences are with Maria Martinez Lomeli’s family and friends during this difficult time. I hope the investigation’s results provide answers and closure.
