Pedestrian Crash in Lemon Grove Kills Nadia Charles and Junior Joseph Juste

Lemon Grove, CA (January 1, 2025) – On Wednesday morning, January 1, 2025, 20-year-old cousins Nadia Charles and Junior Joseph Juste were tragically killed in Lemon Grove near the intersection of Broadway and Buena Vista Avenue.

Accident Details: Both were Haitian immigrants who had recently moved to San Diego to pursue better opportunities. According to surveillance footage, the crash occurred when two vehicles collided, and the momentum of the collision struck Nadia and Junior while they were on foot. Authorities have confirmed that speed was a factor in the crash. The two drivers and a passenger in one of the vehicles were not seriously injured.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Speeding breaches a driver’s duty to operate their vehicle safely, especially in areas where pedestrians are present. Under California law, speeding can be deemed negligence. Negligence forms the basis for civil liability in wrongful death and personal injury cases.

Wrongful Death Claims: The families of Nadia Charles and Junior Joseph Juste may pursue wrongful death claims against the driver or drivers determined to be at fault. A wrongful death claim can provide financial compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of companionship and emotional support, and loss of financial support.

My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Nadia Charles and Junior Joseph Juste during this difficult time.
