Camp Pendleton, CA (June 27, 2024) – In the early hours of Thursday morning, a tragic multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 north of Oceanside claimed the lives of three motorcyclists, including two U.S. Navy Sailors.
Incident Details: A driver of a Jeep crashed into a guardrail. This initial crash was followed by a collision with a passing driver, whose car subsequently overturned. Four motorcyclists, traveling closely together, then collided with the wreckage. In addition to the fatalities, at least five other individuals were transported to hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening. The Navy identified the two Sailors who lost their lives as Stephen Jermaine Williams, 37, from Texas, and Jess Lee Davis, 38, from Tennessee.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several factors of this case warrant further examination. Investigating the cause of the Jeep’s initial crash into the guardrail is critical. Factors such as driver impairment, distraction, mechanical failure, or road conditions need a thorough examination. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the families of Williams and Davis may be able to file a wrongful death claim.
The loss of Stephen Jermaine Williams and Jess Lee Davis is a profound tragedy. My sincerest condolences are with their families, friends, and the Navy community.
