The impact caused the Civic, driven by 64-year-old Jose Lopez Centeno of Carson, to swerve into the far right lane, colliding with a big rig. After this initial impact, the Civic was struck then by a Mazda 3 driven by a 19-year-old woman from Montclair. Centeno died at the scene as a result of the collision, while the driver of the Mazda was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
