Fatal Hit-and-Run Near Visalia Claims Life of Bicyclist Brent Allen

Visalia, CA (August 11, 2024) – On the morning of August 11, 2024, a tragic hit-and-run incident occurred near Visalia, California, claiming the life of bicyclist Brent Allen.

Accident Details and Ongoing Investigation: The California Highway Patrol (CHP) identified the suspect as Henry Robert Garcia. At approximately 9:11 a.m., Allen was riding his bicycle northbound on the paved shoulder of Road 68, just south of Highway 198 in Tulare County. According to investigators, Garcia was driving behind Allen in a Chrysler 300 on the same road. Garcia struck and killed Allen before fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, heading north on Road 68. He did not stop to render aid or contact law enforcement.

The CHP is seeking public assistance in locating Garcia and his vehicle. They urge anyone with information about this case to contact the CHP Visalia office.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Firstly, identifying and apprehending Henry Robert Garcia is crucial. Once located, a thorough investigation into his actions leading up to the crash will be necessary. Factors such as potential impairment, distracted driving, or any prior history of reckless behavior could all play a role in establishing liability.

In addition, the failure to render aid at the scene of the accident adds another layer of legal complexity. Under California law, drivers involved in accidents resulting in injury or death are required to stop and provide assistance. Garcia’s failure to do so may also result in criminal charges.

In addition to criminal consequences, the victim’s family may pursue a wrongful death claim against Garcia. They might be able to hold Garcia accountable for both the financial and emotional damages suffered as a result of Brent Allen’s untimely death.

My deepest condolences go out to Brent Allen’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
