Baldwin Hills, CA (July 23, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred early Tuesday morning in Baldwin Hills, resulting in the death of 40-year-old Yvonne Parks.
Accident Details: The accident occurred just before 2 a.m. in the 5700 block of W. Obama Boulevard near La Cienega Boulevard. Parks and a man were crossing the street when she was struck by a dark-colored vehicle traveling northbound on La Cienega Boulevard. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. Paramedics pronounced Parks dead at the scene.
Investigation: Investigators believe that excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash. The Los Angeles Police Department is actively seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD detectives.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Identifying the driver is paramount. The driver’s decision to flee the scene constitutes a serious crime and demonstrates a blatant disregard for human life, possibly implicating both criminal and civil liability. Determining the exact speed at which the driver was traveling is crucial. Excessive speed not only violates traffic laws but also increases the likelihood of severe injuries or fatalities in the event of a collision. Also, the dangerous conditions reported by local residents and business owners suggest a need for improved traffic safety measures in the area. These details highlight the ongoing safety concerns, possibly implicating the local municipality’s liability for not implementing changes sooner.
Depending on the investigation’s findings, Parks’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Yvonne Parks during this difficult time.
