One Dead After Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo County

San Luis Obispo County, CA (July 28, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision Monday morning on Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo County left one person dead and caused significant road closures.

Accident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. near San Luisito Creek Road. A northbound pickup reportedly crossed the center line and collided with two other vehicles. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and several others sustained injuries.

Highway 1 was closed in both directions for hours while emergency crews cleared the scene.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP is investigating whether speed, fatigue, or a medical emergency caused the driver to veer into oncoming traffic. In fatal multi-vehicle collisions, injured parties and families of the deceased may be entitled to pursue legal claims depending on fault.
