Albany, CA (June 27, 2025) – Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales, a 40-year-old Oakland resident, was killed in a three-vehicle crash near Albany after a suspected DUI driver struck his car on the freeway, causing it to fall from an overpass.
Accident Details: The fatal crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 580 near Buchanan Street. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a Toyota Camry driven by a possibly intoxicated El Cerrito resident struck Morales’s silver Hyundai, forcing it off the freeway.
The Hyundai fell from the overpass and landed upside down. The incident also involved a big rig, though no injuries were reported among the other drivers.
The CHP reported that the Toyota Camry was being driven recklessly before the crash. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Driving under the influence and engaging in reckless behavior on the road create dangerous situations for road users. In this case, investigators will focus on gathering evidence, including toxicology reports, eyewitness testimony, and traffic and surveillance footage.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Morales’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales.
