Fatal Collision in Victorville Claims Life of Correctional Officer Carlos Gonzalez

Victorville, CA (July 21, 2024) – Officer Carlos Gonzalez, a Correctional Officer at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Victorville, tragically lost his life in a fatal traffic collision at the intersection of La Mesa and Amethyst Roads.

Accident Details: The accident occurred shortly before two o’clock in the morning, involving a Ford Ranger and a Toyota Camry. Gonzalez, who was the driver of the Ford, broadsided the Toyota. The Ford then overturned and landed on the grass at Liberty Elementary School. Gonzalez succumbed to his injuries. A passenger in the Ford was critically injured and airlifted to a trauma center. Their current condition remains unknown. The occupants of the Camry, numbering two or possibly three, were transported to a hospital as a precaution.

Investigation: The Victorville Police Department is actively investigating the incident to determine the cause and circumstances leading to the collision.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination to determine whether negligence played a role in the crash. Investigators will look at the drivers’ behavior, such as whether they were speeding, impaired, or distracted. They will also examine the vehicles to determine if mechanical failure contributed to the accident. Road conditions and toxicology reports will be taken under consideration as well. Depending on the findings, Gonzalez’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim and recover compensation against the negligent party.

My sincerest condolences go to Carlos Gonzalez’s family and friends during this difficult time. I wish the injured individuals a fast recovery.

The family of Officer Gonzalez has set up a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral arrangements. Please contribute if you can.
