Long Beach, CA (December 18, 2024) – A 31-year-old man, identified as Jose Deras, was killed in a collision involving a box truck and a big rig on the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Long Beach.
Accident Details: The crash occurred near Wardlow Road just after 11 a.m. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Deras was pronounced dead at the scene. The California Highway Patrol and Long Beach Fire Department investigated the incident.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Given that the collision involved multiple vehicles, an investigation will focus on the cause of the crash, including any potential negligence by the drivers involved. If it is found that either the box truck driver or the big rig driver acted recklessly or failed to maintain proper driving standards, this could result in liability for the crash. The investigation will examine traffic laws, driver behavior, road conditions, and possible mechanical failures.
Jose Deras’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the responsible parties. If negligence is determined, the family may seek compensation for funeral expenses, lost wages, and emotional distress.
I offer my condolences to Jose Deras’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. I hope they find strength and support as they navigate this painful time.
