Lancaster, CA (January 18, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Saturday evening claimed the life of Ruby Herrera Gomez, 19, of Lancaster.
Accident Details: The accident occurred around 8:05 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue J and 27th Street East. Authorities reported that a gray sedan, traveling northbound on 27th Street East, attempted a westbound turn onto Avenue J, colliding with a green minivan traveling eastbound on Avenue J. Herrera Gomez, a passenger in the sedan, suffered major trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. The investigators will likely assess whether the driver of the gray sedan executed the turn safely and if the minivan’s driver contributed to the crash through excessive speed, distraction, or other factors.
Additionally, road design, traffic signals, and visibility at the intersection may play a role. If road conditions contributed to the crash, the municipality responsible for maintaining the roadway could bear partial liability.
Wrongful Death Claim: Herrera Gomez’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim if negligence is found to have caused the accident. Compensation could cover funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and other damages.
I offer my deepest sympathies to Ruby Herrera Gomez’s family and friends during this profoundly difficult time.
