One Dead After Big Rig Crash in North Sacramento

North Sacramento, CA (July 24, 2025) – A deadly crash involving a big rig shut down part of Interstate 80 Thursday morning in North Sacramento, leaving one person dead and triggering a significant emergency response.

Accident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 5:50 a.m. on eastbound I-80 near Norwood Avenue. A sedan and a big rig were involved in the collision, which left the car severely damaged. The driver of the sedan died at the scene.

CHP temporarily closed all eastbound lanes as investigators and cleanup crews responded. Traffic was backed up for several miles.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are working to determine what caused the crash. Investigators will analyze black box data, roadway conditions, speed, and whether driver error or fatigue contributed to the fatal collision.
