Fatal Bicycle Crash in Santa Monica Claims the Life of Bradley Allen Proudfoot

Santa Monica, CA (November 17, 2024) – A 41-year-old man, identified as Bradley Allen Proudfoot from Los Angeles, was killed in a tragic bicycle crash early Sunday morning.

Accident Details: At approximately 12:30 a.m., Proudfoot was riding southbound on Lincoln Boulevard when he was struck by one vehicle and then again by a second vehicle. Both drivers remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. Neither showed signs of impairment, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Investigation: The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging any potential witnesses to come forward. If you have any information regarding this incident, you are encouraged to contact the Santa Monica Police Department.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination.

  • Driver Behavior: Investigators will assess the behavior of both drivers. Although impairment is not believed to be a cause, investigators will also consider whether the drivers were speeding, abiding by traffic laws, distracted, or driving recklessly.
  • Road Conditions: The road conditions on Lincoln Boulevard will also be examined. Inadequate lighting, road defects, or insufficient signage may have contributed to the crash. If so, the local municipality may be liable.
  • Mechanical Failure: Both vehicles should be examined to determine if a mechanical failure or defect prevented the drivers from avoiding hitting Proudfoot. If so, the vehicle manufacturer or service provider may be liable.

If negligence is found, Proudfoot’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against the negligent parties and recover compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional distress.

My deepest condolences go out to Bradley Proudfoot’s family and loved ones during this challenging time. I hope they find the answers and support they need.
