California City, CA (October 23, 2024) – On October 23, 2024, 76-year-old Jack Watson Marshall Jr. and 68-year-old Perla Bella Marshall, both residents of California City, were involved in a fatal crash with a tractor-trailer on California City Boulevard.
Accident Details: According to California City Police, the accident occurred around 4:40 p.m. at the 9500 block of California City Boulevard. A Subaru Outback driven by the Marshalls collided with the left side of the tractor-trailer trailer, backing into The Family Dollar’s parking lot to make a delivery. Tragically, both Jack and Perla Marshall died at the scene. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination.
Investigation into the Tractor-Trailer’s Positioning: One key factor that requires careful examination is the positioning of the tractor-trailer at the time of the crash. The investigation may examine whether the truck driver had adequate visibility, proper signaling, and sufficient space for safe backing. Since witness statements and physical evidence were used to establish that the truck was reversing, further analysis could clarify if there were any contributing factors, such as low visibility or ineffective barriers.
Other Factors: Investigators should also consider whether road conditions caused the Marshalls to hit the truck. Also, whether there were any mechanical malfunctions or defects should be examined.
Wrongful Death Considerations: The loved ones of Jack and Perla Marshall may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. They may be able to recover funeral costs and other losses tied to the couple’s untimely passing.
I extend my deepest condolences to Jack and Perla Marshall’s family and friends. This unexpected loss is devastating, and my thoughts are with their loved ones as they navigate this difficult time.
