E-Bike Rider Jonathan Lupola Dies After Hit-and-Run Near MiraCosta College

Oceanside, CA (March 15, 2025) –  Authorities have confirmed that 34-year-old Jonathan Lupola of Las Vegas died after being struck in a hit-and-run collision while riding his electric bicycle in Oceanside.

Accident Details:  According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, the incident occurred in the 3100 block of Oceanside Boulevard, near MiraCosta College. Lupola was riding his e-bike when he was hit by an unknown vehicle. The driver fled the scene without stopping to help. Lupola was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with critical injuries. Despite medical efforts, he died three days later.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run accident cases can be difficult to solve. In this case, investigators will work to gather surveillance footage, analyze vehicle debris, and collect witness accounts to identify the hit-and-run driver. Given the vulnerability of bicyclists on the road, the investigation will also explore factors like lighting conditions, vehicle speed, and the cyclist’s visibility at the time of the crash.

If negligence is found, Lupola’s family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim.

I extend my deepest condolences to Jonathan Lupola’s family and friends.
