San Diego, CA (June 8, 2024) – An accident on the night of Saturday, June 8, resulted in severe injuries for Brenden Abdoian, a college student home from Arizona on break.
Accident Details: Shortly before 10 p.m., Abdoian was struck by a vehicle while crossing Larksdale Avenue at Murray Ridge Road. According to police reports, the driver, a 63-year-old man, remained at the scene and was subsequently arrested on DUI charges. A couple in their 30s who were passing by stopped to assist Abdoian. Emergency services arrived shortly after the couple’s call. Abdoian sustained a large gash on his head and a concussion, in addition to multiple cuts, bruises, and road rash across his body.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury lawyer, I find that several points of this pedestrian accident warrant attention. First, the DUI charges against the driver are significant. Driving under the influence is a severe offense, and the driver’s impairment at the time of the accident will likely be a critical element in establishing negligence. The toxicology report and any evidence of the driver’s behavior before the crash will be essential. Second, the location and lighting conditions at Larksdale Avenue and Murray Ridge Road must be examined. Were there sufficient crosswalks and pedestrian signals? Poor visibility or inadequate pedestrian pathways can contribute to accidents. They might indicate negligence on the part of the local authority charged with maintaining the safety and integrity of the area. Abdoian may be able to file a personal injury claim if negligence is found.
I offer my condolences to Brenden Abdoian and his family during this difficult time and wish him a speedy recovery.
