DUI Collision Claims the Life of Debra Brown in Calexico

Calexico, CA (January 18, 2025) – On the morning of Saturday, January 18, 2025, a tragic accident occurred along Heber Avenue near East Birch Street in Calexico, Imperial County.

Accident Details: Debra Brown, a 45-year-old resident of Anaheim, was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by a suspected intoxicated motorist at approximately 6:45 a.m. Tragically, Brown succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Authorities reported that the driver involved exhibited signs of intoxication and was subsequently arrested. Investigators continue to gather evidence to determine the full circumstances of the crash.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Driving under the influence (DUI) directly breaches the legal duty all drivers have to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly. This duty includes making sound judgments, reacting promptly to hazards, and maintaining vehicle control to avoid endangering others. Alcohol and drugs impair critical faculties such as reaction time, coordination, and decision-making, increasing the risk of accidents. By choosing to drive while intoxicated, a motorist knowingly disregards their duty, creating unsafe conditions that often lead to tragic outcomes, as seen in this case.

Debra Brown’s family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim against the intoxicated driver. Compensation could cover funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and other damages.

I offer my condolences to Debra Brown’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable loss.
