Poolesville, MD (June 5, 2025) — A man was killed and another person critically injured Wednesday morning when their car collided with a tractor-trailer in Montgomery County, according to local authorities.
Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred just before 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Darnestown Road and Cattail Road. Officials say a gray 2016 Ford Fusion and a red and black Kenworth tractor-trailer were involved in the collision. The Ford Fusion’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released, and it is pending family notification.
A passenger in the Fusion suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for emergency care. The tractor-trailer driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Darnestown Road was fully closed at Cattail Road during the crash investigation.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities continue their investigation and have not yet revealed who had the right of way or what caused the collision. The investigation is expected to examine factors such as speed, visibility at the intersection, reaction time, and whether either party violated traffic laws. Investigators will review physical evidence, driver statements, and may also analyze surveillance footage or dashcam data from the semi-truck.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of the deceased driver may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim for funeral costs, loss of companionship, and other expenses. The injured passenger could also seek compensation via a personal injury claim for medical treatment, lost wages, and emotional trauma.
My condolences to the family of the deceased driver, and I wish the injured passenger a full recovery.
