Dong Shan Ma and Mason Ryan Killed in Fiery Crash on Highway 101 in Camarillo

Camarillo, CA (March 24, 2025) – Authorities have identified the two young men killed in a fiery collision on northbound Highway 101 near Carmen Drive in Camarillo on March 17. The victims, both 21-year-old Goleta residents, were Dong Shan Ma and Mason W. Ryan, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Incident Details: The crash occurred shortly before 3 a.m. when a 2015 Ford Mustang, driven by a 19-year-old Santa Barbara man, struck the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta occupied by Ma and Ryan. The Jetta had reportedly stopped in the highway’s center median. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire. Ma died from blunt-force head and chest injuries, while Ryan died from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The Mustang driver survived.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, including why the Jetta was stopped in the median and whether the Mustang driver was speeding or impaired. Investigators will examine factors such as nighttime visibility, hazard lights, and potential driver distraction. Surviving family members of the victims may consider pursuing wrongful death claims depending on the findings of fault.

Our condolences go out to the families and loved ones of Dong Shan Ma and Mason Ryan.
