Cabazon, CA (April 10, 2025) – A 40-year-old woman from Ontario was killed early Thursday morning in a collision involving a big rig and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 10, just west of Palm Springs, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred at 12:06 a.m. on eastbound I-10 near Haugan-Lehmann Way. Authorities reported that a gray Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Dianna Bocanegra, was struck by a semi-truck under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Bocanegra was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and the big rig’s driver has not been publicly identified.
The crash prompted a temporary closure of the eastbound lanes as emergency personnel responded and investigators worked to document the scene. As the investigation continues, the CHP is expected to release more information.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The California Highway Patrol is investigating what led to the collision, including whether speed, visibility, driver attentiveness, or mechanical failure contributed.
Depending on the investigation’s findings, Bocanegra’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for funeral expenses, emotional loss, and other financial damages. Trucking companies may also be liable if the driver was on duty or if vehicle maintenance issues played a role.
I extend my condolences to the family and friends of Dianna Bocanegra during this difficult time.
