Miramar, CA (March 16, 2024) – A tragic chain-reaction crash on Interstate 15 near Miramar has claimed the lives of two Escondido residents. Daniel Vicente Delgadillo, 26, and Alexa Pauline Lavigne, 24, were identified as the victims of the accident that occurred on March 16, just before 2:45 a.m. near Miramar Way, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Crash Details: Delgadillo and Lavigne were passengers in a Honda Civic traveling northbound when their vehicle rear-ended a Toyota 4-Runner. The impact disabled the Honda, sending it into other traffic lanes, where it was subsequently struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck. The collision resulted in both Delgadillo and Lavigne being ejected from the car and killed.
DUI Arrests: The 25-year-old Escondido man driving the Honda and the 22-year-old Sun City man driving the pickup were both arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. So far, they have not been identified by authorities.
Legal Analysis: The fact that there were two drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a horrifying example of just how risky it is driving in the early morning. Based on this information, the families of Delgadillo and Lavigne may have the option to file a wrongful death claim. While it’s possible that they knew the driver of the Honda, the losses for the families of the victims are likely both emotionally and financially devastating. A wrongful death claim is a way for them to seek compensation for those losses, including emotional distress, loss of companionship, funeral costs, and more.
I offer my deepest condolences to the families of Daniel Delgadillo and Alexa Lavigne during this difficult time. I hope that the drivers are held accountable for their actions and that the families receive the support they need.
