David and Diane Waller, Carrie Stone Killed in Semi-Truck Crash on Highway 84 in Houston County

Houston County, AL (May 10, 2025) — A Florida couple and their daughter were tragically killed Saturday when a semi-truck collided with their SUV on Highway 84 near Gordon, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Incident Details: Authorities confirmed that 74-year-old David Waller, 71-year-old Diane Waller, both of Floral City, Florida, and their daughter, 49-year-old Carrie Stone of Inverness, Florida, were all killed in the crash. The collision occurred when their Toyota 4-Runner was crossing Highway 84 and was struck by the oncoming semi-truck.

The impact was fatal for all three occupants of the SUV. No other injuries were reported at the scene. The Alabama State Troopers and ALEA are leading the investigation into the crash.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The exact circumstances of the collision remain under investigation, but officials have indicated that the SUV was crossing the highway at the time of impact. Investigators will assess whether right-of-way laws were violated and whether either driver failed to yield, was distracted, or traveled at an unsafe speed.

Law enforcement will also examine driver logs, brake systems, black box data, and compliance with federal trucking regulations for commercial trucks.

Depending on the investigation’s findings, the surviving family members may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. The compensation could help with funeral expenses, emotional suffering, and the loss of familial support and companionship.

I offer my condolences to the Waller and Stone families and their loved ones.
