David Weatherford, 80, and Connie Weatherford, 79, Killed in Escondido Collision on Citracado Parkway

Escondido, California (April 7, 2026) — A married couple from Escondido died after a traffic collision last Tuesday on Citracado Parkway, according to authorities.

Officials identified the deceased as 80-year-old David Weatherford and his 79-year-old wife, Connie Weatherford.

The crash happened shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Citracado Parkway, just southwest of Interstate 15 and State Route 78.

Incident Details: Authorities say Connie Weatherford was driving a sedan when it collided with another vehicle on Citracado Parkway. David Weatherford was also inside the car at the time of the crash.

Paramedics transported both David and Connie Weatherford to Palomar Medical Center. David Weatherford was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Connie Weatherford died the following afternoon.

Public reporting has not yet provided additional details about the other driver, the circumstances leading up to the collision, or whether anyone else was injured.

Investigation: In a crash like this, investigators will likely focus on how the two vehicles came together on Citracado Parkway and whether either driver made an unsafe movement before impact. In a fatal two-vehicle collision, key issues often include speed, right-of-way, visibility, traffic flow, and whether either driver attempted to brake or avoid the crash.

Investigators may also review vehicle damage, roadway evidence, witness statements, and any available surveillance footage to determine the sequence of events. Because the Weatherfords survived long enough to be taken to the hospital, the severity and direction of the impact will likely be important in understanding how the crash occurred and why the injuries proved fatal. This is the kind of collision that calls for a full accounting of what happened and why.

Legal Considerations: Fatal two-vehicle crashes often raise important civil liability questions, especially when initial public reporting omits the cause of the collision. A civil case may also help uncover details that are unclear from the initial public reports and provide a path toward accountability.

Pending the investigation’s results, the Weatherford family might have a legitimate opportunity to pursue wrongful death claims. These claims could cover funeral and burial costs, medical expenses before death, and the loss of love, care, guidance, and financial support from David and Connie. Losing both spouses in the same crash can have a deeply emotional and financial impact on the family.

My heartfelt condolences to the Weatherfords’ loved ones and family during this extremely difficult time.
