Daniel Uhlenbrock Killed in Tragic UPS Truck Accident in Batavia Township

Batavia Township, OH (February 24, 2025) – A child, Daniel Uhlenbrock, 4, died after he was struck by a UPS truck on Autumnview Drive in Batavia Township.

Incident Overview: According to the preliminary investigation, the crash occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. A 51-year-old UPS driver was traveling southeast on Autumnview Drive. The truck turned around in a cul-de-sac and stopped. Daniel Uhlenbrock, who was riding a wagon, entered the roadway as the truck started to move again and was hit. Emergency responders airlifted Daniel to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where he died. UPS released a statement expressing its condolences and said it was cooperating with the investigation.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Accidents involving large trucks require a thorough investigation to determine what caused the accident. Delivery drivers must be especially cautious in residential areas, where children are more likely to be present. Large trucks also have significant blind spots, particularly near the front and sides of the vehicle. Authorities will assess whether the driver checked their surroundings properly before moving the truck. While the driver had stopped in the cul-de-sac, investigators will determine whether they followed proper safety protocols before driving the vehicle.

If evidence suggests negligence was the cause of the accident, Daniel’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim.

My deepest sympathies go out to Daniel’s family and loved ones as they grieve this loss. I hope they receive the support and answers they need during this difficult time.
