Los Angeles, CA (February 23, 2026) – The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has identified 29-year-old Daisy Reyes as the pedestrian killed after being struck by a vehicle at an intersection in Lake Balboa.
Incident Details: On Monday, February 23, 2026, around 6:10 a.m., a vehicle struck pedestrian Daisy Reyes at an intersection in Lake Balboa at Balboa Boulevard and Saticoy Street. Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.
According to a Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officer, the driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
Investigation: The LAPD is continuing to investigate the fatal pedestrian collision at Balboa Boulevard and Saticoy Street in Lake Balboa. Investigators will review traffic signal timing, crosswalk markings, lighting conditions, and the direction of travel for both the vehicle and Daisy Reyes at the time of impact.
Authorities will also examine whether speed, distraction (including cellphone use), fatigue, or impairment from drugs or alcohol played any role in the crash. Even though the driver remained at the scene and cooperated, officers may conduct toxicology testing, review phone records if warranted, and analyze surveillance footage or witness statements to determine whether the driver exercised reasonable care. The findings will ultimately determine whether any traffic violations or negligence contributed to the collision.
Legal Considerations: Under California law, drivers must yield to pedestrians lawfully within a crosswalk and exercise due care to avoid collisions.
