One Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash on Interstate 95 in Cumberland County

Cumberland County, NC (October 6, 2025) – At least one person was killed Monday morning in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in Cumberland County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Accident Details: Authorities said the collision occurred around 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Exit 55, close to Murphy Road. The crash involved a tractor-trailer and at least one other vehicle, though officials have not yet confirmed how the collision began. When troopers arrived, they found one person dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.

The impact caused significant traffic delays during the early morning commute. Northbound lanes were closed for several hours while investigators and emergency crews worked to clear wreckage and collect evidence. All lanes reopened later in the morning after the vehicles were removed and the roadway was deemed safe for travel.

Investigation: The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. Troopers are examining vehicle damage, roadway debris, and skid marks to determine how the crash unfolded. They are also reviewing dash camera footage and witness statements to establish whether speed, fatigue, or distracted driving contributed. Officials have not released any indication that weather or impairment played a role.

Legal Considerations: Fatal crashes involving tractor-trailers often require an in-depth investigation to determine liability. Commercial drivers and their employers are subject to federal safety regulations covering vehicle maintenance, hours of service, and load limits. If violations are uncovered, victims’ families may be able to pursue wrongful death claims seeking compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering. These claims can also prompt trucking companies to improve safety measures and compliance with state and federal law.

This was a tragic incident that claimed a life on one of North Carolina’s busiest highways. I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this Cumberland County crash.
