Ventura County, CA (December 1, 2024) – On December 1, 2024, a tragic crash occurred on Deer Creek Road in Ventura County, claiming the life of Jovanni Ponce, 22, an Oxnard resident.
Accident Details: A Cadillac Escalade veered off the road, tumbling nearly 1,000 feet down an embankment. The crash went unreported for over 24 hours, but the passenger who survived the incident contacted authorities around noon on December 2. Once the search for the other two men, believed to be in the vehicle, was initiated, authorities used helicopters, search dogs, and thermal cameras to comb the rugged terrain of the Santa Monica Mountains, but no sign of them was found. On December 6, Ponce’s family filed a missing persons report. This report restarted the search. Ponce’s body was discovered on December 7, hidden among thick foliage.
Investigation: At this point, one person remains unaccounted for. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact Officer Ryan Tucker at the CHP’s Ventura office.
