Rollover Crash in Mokelumne Hill Injures Karashma Hussaini, Pawasja Dastagiezad, and a Young Girl

Mokelumne Hill, CA (June 11, 2024) – On June 11, 2024, in Mokelumne Hill, CA, a severe rollover crash on Highway 26 injures three.

Accident Facts: The two-vehicle collision occurred around 11 a.m. west of Paloma Road, involving a 2010 Toyota Prius driven by Karashma Hussaini and a 2018 Chevy Trax SUV driven by Stacy Odonnell. In the Chevy were three passengers: 40-year-old Pawasja Dastagiezad of Union City and two Freemont residents, a nine-year-old girl and a five-year-old. For reasons unknown, Hussaini swerved into the eastbound lane and collided with the Chevy, resulting in the Chevy overturning on the side. Hussaini was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Modesto after suffering serious injuries. Dastagiezad and the nine-year-old girl were transported to UC Davis Medical Center.

Investigation: The accident is still under investigation. However, authorities have stated that they do not suspect alcohol or drugs to be factors that caused the collision. As a personal injury lawyer, I see several aspects that should be examined.

Legal Considerations: One key aspect of this case is determining why Hussaini’s vehicle veered into the eastbound lane, causing the collision. The investigation will likely focus on various potential causes, such as driver distraction, mechanical failure, or roadway conditions. Eyewitness testimonies, vehicle inspections, and analysis of the accident scene will be crucial in establishing the cause of the collision. Given that the collision resulted in a rollover, it is essential to examine whether there were any defects in either vehicle that could have contributed to the severity of the accident. Vehicle manufacturers can be deemed negligent if a defect is found to have caused the injuries sustained by the occupants. The condition of the roadway at the time of the accident will also be scrutinized. Poorly maintained roads, inadequate signage, or other hazards could have played a role in the collision. If road conditions are found to be a contributing factor, the government entity in charge of road maintenance may be negligent. If the investigation highlights negligence, the injured victims may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit.

My thoughts are with Karashma Hussaini, Pawasja Dastagiezad, and the young girl injured in the crash. I wish them a fast recovery.
