Seguin, TX (March 10, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle crash resulted in the death of 26-year-old Joshua Green of La Vernia and left 25-year-old Matthew Payton of Seguin critically injured.
Accident Details: The accident occurred on South State Highway 46 in the 1600 block. Seguin Police responded to the crash at 7:52 a.m. A northbound 2013 Ford F-150 had collided head-on with a southbound 2007 Freightliner traveling. Upon impact, the 18-wheeler was fully engulfed in flames, but the driver was saved and transported to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Green, the driver of the Ford F-150, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Payton, was transported to Brooke Army Medical Center with critical injuries. The Seguin Police Department’s Traffic Unit is still investigating the cause of the crash, and no further details have been released.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Head-on collisions often result from lane departures, speeding, or failure to yield. Investigators will analyze whether one of the vehicles crossed the centerline or if other factors, like distracted driving, fatigue, or medical issues, played a role.
Authorities will examine road conditions, visibility, and speed at the time of impact. If either driver traveled too fast for the conditions or failed to maintain vehicle control, liability and fault determination could be impacted.
Investigators will review surveillance footage, vehicle damage patterns, black box data from the Freightliner, and witness statements to understand what led to the collision. Additionally, they will assess brake marks, vehicle positioning, and accident reconstruction reports to determine the events leading to the crash.
If negligence is found to be a contributing factor, Green’s family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim, and Payton may have grounds to pursue a personal injury claim.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Joshua Green during this difficult time. I wish Matthew Payton a fast recovery.
