Clint and Meghan McCaffety Among Three Killed in Milam County Semi-Truck Crash

Milam County, TX (April 1, 2025) – Three people, including 43-year-old Clint McCaffety and 39-year-old Meghan Nicole McCaffety, were killed Tuesday in a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on a Texas highway, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred when a 2025 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by a 26-year-old man from Bellmead, failed to control its speed and struck two vehicles that had stopped in a westbound traffic lane due to construction. The first vehicle was a Ford sedan driven by Clint McCaffety, with Meghan McCaffety and a 16-year-old male as passengers. All three in the Ford were pronounced dead at the scene. A 2015 Kia SUV driven by a 45-year-old woman from Fort Bend was also struck and pushed into a ditch, where it overturned. The SUV driver was hospitalized with injuries.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are investigating why the semi-truck driver was unable to slow down in time. Key considerations include the truck’s speed, potential distraction or fatigue, and the visibility of the construction zone. Given the loss of life and nature of the crash, the families of the victims may pursue wrongful death claims, and liability may rest with the driver and possibly their employer or the trucking company depending on compliance with safety protocols.
