Semi-Truck Rear-Ends Farm Tractor, Killing Truck Driver in Clark County

Town of Mayville, WI (October 5, 2025) – One person was killed and another injured Sunday night when a semi-truck struck a farm tractor from behind on State Highway 13 in Clark County, according to local authorities.

Accident Details: The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said the collision happened around 7:58 p.m. on State Highway 13 at Hickory Road in the Town of Mayville. Investigators determined a farm tractor pulling a loaded wagon was traveling southbound and turning east onto Draper Road when a southbound semi-truck rear-ended the tractor. The semi’s driver, who was the only occupant, died at the scene. The tractor’s driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment. Crews closed portions of the roadway to allow for emergency response, crash documentation, and vehicle recovery.

Investigation: Deputies are working to determine what led to the rear-end impact, including whether speed, visibility, or lighting conditions were factors on the rural highway at the time of the collision. Investigators are also reviewing the semi’s condition and any available data, as well as the lighting and markings on the farm equipment and wagon. The names of those involved have not been released pending family notification. No citations or charges have been announced, and the investigation remains active.

Legal Considerations: Crashes involving agricultural equipment and commercial trucks often involve complex questions about lighting, slow-moving-vehicle markings, and appropriate following distance, especially after dark. Liability assessments typically examine driver behavior, equipment visibility, and compliance with state vehicle and farm-implement requirements. Injured victims and families may consider claims for medical costs, funeral expenses, lost income, and other damages if negligence is proven. Preserving photos, vehicle data, and witness accounts can be critical to clarifying fault in rear-end collisions.

This was a heartbreaking crash for the Mayville community and all involved. I extend sincere condolences to the family of the truck driver and wish the tractor operator a full and swift recovery.
