Bicyclist Cezar Falconitin Killed in Collision with Napa County Work Truck

Yountville, CA (February 25, 2025) — A devastating collision in Napa County has claimed the life of Cezar Falconitin, a 47-year-old Vallejo resident, marking a tragic loss in a popular area for cycling.

Incident Overview: On Tuesday morning, a county-operated Ford F-350 pickup work truck struck and killed Falconitin on a narrow two-lane road south of Yountville Cross Road. Falconitin was riding with another cyclist when the truck, traveling at approximately 55 mph, attempted to pass. The lead cyclist swerved to avoid debris and struck the truck’s mirror. The driver immediately stopped and called 911, and a passenger attempted to assist, but tragically, Falconitin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: California Highway Patrol officials are investigating the crash but have confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not a factor. Falconitin was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, underscoring the risks cyclists face even when following safety precautions.

Investigators will evaluate all factors that have contributed to this tragedy, including failing to yield and allowing enough space to permit passing, whether the driver was distracted, and what role road conditions like debris played.

Cyclists are especially vulnerable on shared roadways, making driver awareness and safe passing laws critical in preventing similar truck accidents.

Depending on the findings, Falconitin’s family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering.

The loss of Mr. Falconitin, a dedicated nurse and passionate cyclist, deeply saddens the community. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his loved ones during this incredibly challenging time.
