Perris, CA (May 29, 2025) — A 30-year-old woman identified as Carol Omo Aba was struck and killed Thursday night while walking on the 215 Freeway in Perris, according to the California Highway Patrol. The suspected driver was later arrested for multiple felonies, including DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 9:35 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-215 near the Placentia Avenue on-ramp. CHP investigators say Aba was walking on the freeway when she was hit by a Ford F-150 that had just merged onto the highway. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.
Emergency responders pronounced Aba dead at the scene. Following community tips, CHP officers located the suspect at a residence in Menifee.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities arrested the 41-year-old Menifee man on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, DUI, vehicular manslaughter, and driving on a suspended or revoked license. A thorough legal investigation will likely focus on whether other factors or other individuals may have contributed to the driver’s impairment or the accident.
Depending on the findings of the investigation, the Aba family may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim against the impaired driver. These claims can seek damages for funeral expenses, lost companionship, and emotional suffering.
My condolences to the Aba family and friends during this difficult time.
