La Mesa, CA (September 5, 2024) – On the morning of September 5, 2024, Caleb Carvalho, a freshman at Helix High School, was involved in a serious accident with a trash truck while riding his bike along University Avenue on his way to school.
Accident Details: The collision occurred as an EDCO truck made a sudden turn, trapping Carvalho’s bike under the vehicle’s back tires. Carvalho’s parents shared that the truck turned without using a blinker, giving their son no time to react.
The crash left Caleb Carvalho with severe pelvic fractures and a femur fracture. He has already undergone two surgeries and will be on bed rest for eight weeks. While his family remains hopeful, it is unclear how fully Carvalho will recover from his injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. Determining liability may involve investigating whether the truck driver failed to signal the turn correctly and whether the truck driver was following local traffic regulations. Additionally, examining the roadway conditions, the truck’s maintenance, and potential witness testimony will be crucial to establish how the collision occurred and whether the driver or company may be held accountable.
Given Caleb’s severe injuries, his family could explore the possibility of filing a personal injury claim to recover damages for medical expenses, lost future opportunities, and pain and suffering.
My thoughts are with Caleb Carvalho and his family during this difficult time. I hope he has a smooth recovery and finds strength and support from those around him. His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with expenses. Please contribute if you can.
